RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Yesterday, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) signed an agreement with Al Basar International Foundation to implement the first phase of rehabilitating a new building at the Mecca Medicine Eye Hospital in the Sudanese city of Omdurman.

The agreement was signed by KSrelief’s Assistant Supervisor General of Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed Al Baiz, and by a Member of the Board of Directors at Al Basar International Foundation, Dr. Ziyad Al Suwaidan, at KSrelief’s headquarters in Riyadh. The purpose of the project is to remodel the ground floor of the new hospital building to provide comprehensive medical services to eye patients.

Omdurman is one of the most densely populated cities in Sudan, with a population of 5 million, according to a report issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Health. The report also indicates that 1.5 million people annually are in need of ophthalmological services, which increases the burden on specialized hospitals. Currently, the ophthalmology hospitals in the city are able to provide medical services amounting to only about 17% of the actual need.

KSrelief, on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has implemented more than 2,000 projects in 84 countries with 175 humanitarian partners, alleviating the suffering of millions of people worldwide.
