MA’RIB, YEMEN: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) recently implemented a three-day program to educate orphans and other children on ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ma’rib. The initiative, which is part of KSrelief’s “Seed of Safety Project”, is designed to protect the health and safety of children and their loved ones and to empower the children to pass along their knowledge about the virus to others. Following the program, the children who participated returned to Al Suwaida IDP camp to educate their peers, under the guidance of social support specialists from the “Seed of Safety” project. The IDP camp, located in Ma’rib, has 1,200 displaced children in residence.

The children have devised their own methods of spreading awareness about COVID-19 prevention. They have held individual education sessions, distributed brochures, and have even presented theatrical plays and read information to others about symptoms of the virus and ways to avoid contracting it. They also gave instructions on proper handwashing techniques and how to deal with suspected cases.

From Ma'rib in the north to Mocha in the west, the idea inspired other children in the Western Coast who benefitted from the project. A field trip was also organized for the children to Bani Jaber IDP camp in Al Khawkhah district and other near camps to spread awareness to more than 800 displaced children. The main goal of the project is to ensure that everyone is happy, healthy and safe.
