HAJJAH, YEMEN: Yesterday, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) launched a health awareness campaign aimed at educating the public about ways to combat malaria and dengue fever. The campaign is being launched at the Hayran Field Hospital in Hajjah, as this area has seen a recent spread of these diseases in the districts of Midi, Hayran, Harad and Bani Hassan, and in some villages of Abs in the Hajjah governorate.
In a speech to trainees, Director of Al Ja’dah Medical Center, Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, spoke about the importance of public awareness about malaria and dengue fever, disease symptoms and prevention methods. He also pointed out the number of cases that have been received and treated at the medical center, and the effective coordination taking place with the Ministry of Health office. He stressed the need for concerted efforts between the center, the health offices and military medical units in the region to work together to reduce the spread of these diseases. Prevention can happen, he added, by implementing an action plan for spraying pesticides, land-filling ponds and swamps, and removing the breeding sites of vectors.
Dr. Abdel Hamid pointed to the need to start an education program for nurses and health volunteers in the districts to teach them how to deal with the diseases, starting with prevention methods, public awareness and education, along with prompt diagnosis and proper procedures for dealing with presented cases. He noted the great role played by KSrelief and its continuous support to the Al Ja’dah Medical Center in providing treatment and control mechanisms for diseases that are particularly widespread.
