RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Yemen, Mr. Jean-Nicolas Beuze, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), for its generous support for UNHCR’s programs to address the needs of displaced and vulnerable families in the country. “The recent contribution,” he stated in letter to KSrelief, “is a generous and timely gesture as the crisis in Yemen deepens due to the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters and forced displacement due to conflict, coupled with limited funding.”
“Your generous donation to UNHCR will provide live-saving aid to 1.4 million internally displaced persons, returnees and host community members, as well as to refugees and asylum-seekers in Yemen, and will assist our efforts to combat COVID-19. With your support, thousands of families in urgent need will be provided with dignified shelter and essential household items to sustain daily life; they will also be ensured of a continuous supply of basic services such as water supply, hygiene, sanitation and health care in the sites hosting them. Furthermore, rehabilitation of the health facilities with much-needed medicines and equipment will significantly enhance the COVID-19 response capacities in Yemen.”
“The year 2020 has been challenging across the globe. However, the effects of the pandemic on those having faced years of conflict and a dire economic downturn such as in Yemen, have been disproportionately harsh. It is momentous that even during these difficult times, the government of Saudi Arabia chose to manifest once again its solidarity and support, through King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Centre, to the people of Yemen. UNHCR in Yemen is honored to count on your support and your trust over the years in our ability to identify the most vulnerable families and provide them with adequate assistance.”
“Allow me to again convey,” he concluded, “my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued leadership on humanitarian issues and support of UNHCR, as a major donor in the region, one that has always come forward at critical times to provide steadfast support to the Yemen Operation and beyond.”
