ADEN, YEMEN: Yesterday, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) launched a campaign to combat dengue fever in Aden using insecticide foggers. The campaign will last for 18 months and will include all Aden districts.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Health and Population for the primary health care sector, Dr. Ali Al Walidi, explained that the campaign will be implemented in three phases, and that its goal is to eliminate hotbeds of dengue and malaria vectors and limit the spread of these deadly diseases. Another goal is to increase community health awareness and provide guidance through a targeted media campaign. Dr. Walidi expressed his appreciation for KSrelief’s support in implementing the campaign.
Director General of the National Malaria Program at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yasser Bahashm, stated that the campaign will begin in the Al Mansoura district and will eventually include all of Aden’s other eight districts at a rate of six days for each district. He further noted that the campaign and investigations into the dengue and malaria vectors will coincide with a ten-day health awareness drive. Radio stations will broadcast the awareness campaign’s messages to the public, and will instruct people on ways to help prevent and eradicate dengue fever and malaria in their communities.
KSrelief has launched several comprehensive projects to combat malaria in Yemen, including spraying campaigns, field trips to discover and combat reproductive hotspots, and studies on the overall epidemiological situation in the country. The main goal of all of these activities is to enhance public health and control insect-borne diseases.
