Falling, struggling, then rising back up.
“I dropped out of university to get a simple job to meet the basic needs of my family and to build an unknown future!” said Haitham Muhammad from Taiz Governorate, who has worked as a daily wage laborer in the city of Ma'rib, "I had to leave my family and look for a job to keep their heads above water." Haitham continued working away from his family for more than four years. After which, he decided to return to his town to get married, and then return to work again.
On his way to his family, Haitham had a car accident in a bus that carried him and other people. He lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital in Sana’a. He recovered after a coma that lasted four days; "I opened my eyes and saw my family around me, they were traumatized. I saw sadness in their eyes, and that was when I realized I had lower body paralysis. It was a tragedy!" Haitham stayed in Sana'a for a year trying to find treatment in the city's hospitals, he spent everything he owned but his effort was in vain. Hopelessly, he returned to his village.
After 4 years, Haitham traveled again looking for a glimmer of hope. During his visit, he was told about the Prosthetic Limb Center funded by #KSrelief. He visited the center and was very surprised that the services were free of charge. A doctor saw him as soon as he arrived and gave him the treatment plan which consisted of several long sessions of physical therapy.
Today, after nearly four consecutive months of intense exercises, Haitham’s enthusiasm and desire are indescribable. He regained partial sensation in the lower half of his body, and this is happening for the first time in years thanks to the exercises. This result is the onset of the treatment plan, and Haitham is very happy about it and very determined to complete the treatment until he can get up again.
