On the beach of Al Khawkhah city, my story started
My name is Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah, and I'm a 50-year-old fisherman from Alkhokhah coastal district.
One year ago, I was done fishing and headed home with my
childhood friend. We stepped on a landmine that exploded and killed my friend
right away.
At that time, I didn’t pass out, but I truly wish I did
so that I wouldn’t see my best friend dying in front of my eyes and not be able
to help him.
We were rushed to the hospital. When we reached the
hospital, my friend had already died, but the doctors didn’t tell me about it.
They said my foot should be amputated. I agreed to the amputation, but I was
sad because I would lose one of my limbs.
The amputation was done, and when my condition started to
stabilize, they informed me that my friend had passed away.
I sat at home for a year; I could not go out and practice
my previous life due to the amputation, and my mental health deteriorated.
A year later, a friend came to visit me, and he had been
injured before and had his limb amputated. When he came to visit me, I saw him
standing on his feet and walking normally, while I had been at home for a year.
My friend told me about the prosthetic limb and how he brought him back to life
again, thanks to God first and then King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief
Centre. My friend's words gave me hope again. At that time, I contacted the
coordinator of KSrelief Prosthetic Limbs and Rehabilitation Center in the Sahel
region, and he told me that they would take me to Taiz for free.
I traveled to Taiz, and when I entered the center, I was
very optimistic because I saw people with conditions worse than mine who had
recovered and started walking and practicing their normal lives as they were
before.
The specialist examined my feet, after which measurements
were taken and the limb was manufactured. After preparing it, it was fitted,
and I started practicing on it inside the center until I was standing and
walking again. I was very happy and could not believe that I would go back to
living my life as it was before. Thanks to God and to King Salman Humanitarian
Aid & Relief Centre and its employees, who provided me with all the
support.
