GAZIANTEP, TURKEY: The government and the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been extending a helping hand to the Syrians since the beginning of the crisis their country; the Kingdom’s goal is to alleviate the suffering of Syrians who have been living under harsh and tragic conditions for a number of years.
According to directives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has launched 12 executive projects in Gaziantep City, Turkey, near the Syrian border at a cost of $18,000,000. The ceremony to launch the project was attended by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Turkey, Waleed Elkhereiji, Head of KSrelief’s Community Support Department, Abdullah Al Rwaily, the Director of KSrelief’s branch office in Turkey, Khalid Al-Salamah, and a number of other relief organizations.
Ambassador Elkhereiji stressed that the center’s overall strategy is to provide fast and effective foreign aid to all Syrians in need. The name of the program is "KSA's Syrian Relief Campaign" and it began in 2015; since then, the campaign has cost more than 700 million Saudi Riyals. Aid continues to be distributed via more than 140 relief projects for Syrian IDPs and refugees.
He also pointed out that this aid is just one example of the many good works in which the Saudi government is involved to help people affected by disasters and wars – always without any ulterior motives. The Kingdom’s impartial giving emanates from the values of Saudi society, which are based on Arab and Islamic traditions.
KSrelief representatives stressed that these projects are only a small part of fulfilling their duty towards Syrians in crisis. The new Saudi aid campaign has great significance, coming at a time in which the humanitarian situation in Syria is worsening, and the suffering of refugees on the Turkish border has increased due to the recent cold wave which has swept through the region.
