RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Today, under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) launched a national campaign to collect donations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its “Sahem” online platform to enable to public to contribute to providing relief to flood-affected people in Pakistan. The country, which was recently hit by devastating and continuous heavy rains, is reeling from heavy flooding which has inundated more than a third of Pakistan’s total land area.
In remarks during the launching ceremony, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, who is an Advisor to the Royal Court and is also Supervisor General of KSrelief, explained that that Pakistan was going through the worst natural disaster it has experienced in decades. More than 33 million people have been affected by the flooding; more than 1,300 have died, and more than 13,000 others have been injured. In excess of 550,000 houses were completely destroyed, one million houses were partially damaged, and many roads, bridges, and businesses were damaged or destroyed.
Dr. Al Rabeeah further stated that under the generous directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and with follow-up from the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Prince Muhammad bin Salman, KSrelief was launching the donation appeal to alleviate suffering in Pakistan. The Kingdom’s leadership’s generous directive, he added, reflected the leading global humanitarian role being played by the Kingdom, and also underscored the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Dr. Al Rabeeah urged everyone to participate in the campaign and send their donations via the “Sahem” platform, which can be accessed both online and through the application available through all mobile phone networks in the Kingdom. The public can also donate by direct deposit through KSrelief’s dedicated bank accounts; the center, he added, does not deduct any administrative fees from the donations it collects.
The Supervisor General stressed that KSrelief was the sole body authorized to receive all relief, charitable and humanitarian donations in the Saudi Arabia, whether governmental or private, to be used to assist beneficiaries outside the Kingdom (external aid). He added that because KSrelief closely monitors and follows up all of its work, donors may be assured that the money they donate will directly benefit the people who are in the greatest need of assistance.
Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince for the care and attention they give to supporting needy and vulnerable groups worldwide. He added his hopes that the aid collected during this campaign would help alleviate suffering across Pakistan.
HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Mutlaq, Advisor to the Royal Court, and Member of the Senior Scholars Committee, also spoke at the launch, saying that they were meeting at KSrelief, which is “the hand that gives and generously extends to the needy everywhere”. He added that the pain inflicted on the Pakistani people by the recent flooding has been devastating, and called upon everyone to participate in this national Saudi campaign to urgently assist flood victims. Such donation campaigns, he said, allowed people to invest in healing and strengthening the world, following the example of prophet Muhammad in providing support and relief to those most in need.
HE Sheikh Saad bin Nasser al-Shathri, who is also an Advisor to the Royal Court and a Member of the Senior Scholars Committee, stressed that donating to this aid campaign would help the people of Pakistan to survive and eventually recover from the disastrous flooding. He added his prayers for the flood victims, and thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince for their generous directives to help the Pakistani people.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, HE Ameer Khurram Rathore, presented an overview of the severe damage that Pakistan has suffered as a result of the devastating floods that have swept the country. He said that the flooding has affected millions of people and caused heavy losses to homes and property. The Ambassador expressed his thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince, stressing that this assistance embodied the depth of the close ties between the two countries, and that the people of Pakistan have a great fondness for the Kingdom, its people and its leadership.
After the launching ceremony, Dr. Al Rabeeah, the distinguished scholars and the Pakistani Ambassador toured the donation campaign’s control room, which is located at KSrelief’s Riyadh headquarters. The visitors were briefed on the mechanisms for receiving donations, and on the processes used to register and document all donations.
