Author: KSrelief
RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Today marks the celebration of United Nations Day – an annual recognition day commemorating the creation of the United Nations on 24 October 1945. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the United Nations’ key donors and supporters of the organization’s global humanitarian efforts. Through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), the Kingdom plays an active role in addressing international humanitarian crises through fruitful cooperation with a number of UN agencies
During the seven years since it was established, KSrelief has built close partnerships within the UN, helping to provide urgent assistance to vulnerable communities around the world. Some of KSrelief’s leading UN partners include: United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); International Organization for Migration (IOM); World Health Organization (WHO); United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); World Food Programme (WFP); United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); and UN Women
These partnerships have resulted in helping to alleviate the suffering of millions of crisis-affected people worldwide. Among the key humanitarian areas in which KSrelief and the UN have worked together in targeted countries are fighting famine, working towards food security, supporting education, building and preparing schools, protecting children, caring for orphans and other vulnerable groups, providing medical services, establishing health centers, and equipping hospitals. Another main area of cooperation has been in combatting diseases and epidemics, including the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These partnerships have also contributed to providing aid to refugees, implementing WASH and nutrition projects, and establishing programs that protect and empower women. Projects in a number of other humanitarian sectors were also implemented by the center in cooperation with various UN agencies
KSrelief – the Kingdom's official humanitarian arm – has received widespread praise from top officials at UN agencies, which are headed by UN’s Secretary-General Antonio Guterres; these agencies consider KSrelief to be one of the world’s most important humanitarian institutions, and one of the leading organizations contributing to the UN’s ongoing efforts to save and improve lives
KSrelief continues to develop and consolidate its partnerships with United Nations agencies as they work together to expand the scope of global humanitarian action
