The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) inaugurated a project to rehabilitate a water desalination plant in the city of Port Sudan, Red Sea State, Sudan. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Sudan, Ali bin Hassan Ahmad Jafar; the Governor of the Red Sea State, Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohammed Nour; the Director of the Health and Environmental Aid Department at KSrelief, Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Muallem; and several senior officials.

The Governor of the Red Sea State praised the generous and continuous support provided by the Kingdom’s leadership and people, emphasizing that this project represents a qualitative leap that alleviates the suffering of both local residents and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Muallem explained that the production capacity of the rehabilitated desalination plant reaches 3,000 cubic meters per day, benefiting approximately 50 neighborhoods and residential blocks within Port Sudan, which has a population of over 400,000 people. Al-Muallem added that the Centre's projects also included the construction of a new desalination plant at the Children’s Teaching Hospital in the city. This plant provides safe drinking and usable water to several other hospitals with a production capacity of 50 cubic meters per day, serving thousands of patients and their families.

He noted that these initiatives are part of a package of humanitarian projects implemented by the Centre in the brotherly Republic of Sudan, pointing out that the total value of humanitarian and relief projects provided by KSrelief to the Sudanese people has exceeded USD 133 million.
