KSrelief to Distribute 20,000 Food Baskets in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) launched a project today to distribute 20,000 food baskets in Pakistan; the project coincides with the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The launching ceremony was held in Islamabad, and was attended by the Governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf Al Maliki, and Head of KSrelief’s Branch Office in Pakistan, Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al Othmani.
The baskets will be distributed in several areas of the Punjab in coordination with regional government authorities. About 120,000 people will benefit from the project across ten parts of Punjab. The Hayat Foundation will distribute the baskets, under the supervision of KSrelief, directly to the residences of targeted beneficiaries and others in need to help them to avoid large gatherings and follow other precautionary measures needed to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Beneficiaries will be chosen in cooperation with the Punjabi regional government.
In a statement, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf Al Maliki, congratulated the Kingdom’s leadership and people on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. “This project,” he said, “that we are launching today is an extension of the humanitarian initiatives previously presented by Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, and is part of the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to providing aid to needy people everywhere – particularly during the current time, when the world is experiencing the Coronavirus pandemic.”
On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, Governor Sarwar thanked the leadership of Saudi Arabia for this support, stressing that the Kingdom is well known to have stood by Pakistan during some of its most difficult challenges. KSrelief, he added, was dedicated to alleviating the suffering of people in need around the world, and stressed that this food aid distribution would help the many people in need throughout the Punjab region.
