Lailat's Journey with Congenital Heart Disease

Details

Lailat, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, was suffering from a congenital heart disease, which blocked blood flow to the heart. Lailat also suffers from (albinism), a genetic disorder that causes the skin and hair to have little or no color.

Lailat and her family live in a small village, and they go regularly to the city hospital, an hour away from her village, to check on Lailat's medical condition. Doctors told her that Lailat needs to undergo open-heart surgery, but the hospital does not have the capabilities to perform it.

Her mother says, "I used to spend my days in sadness and fear, I’m concerned about my daughter's health, and I could do nothing but pray."

When Lailat’s mother heard that KSrelief’s Pediatric Open-Heart Surgery Medical Campaign arrived in Tanzania, she took her daughter to the hospital in which the campaign was launched. The doctors diagnosed Lailat and told her mother that they would perform open-heart surgery for Lailat to help her live her life normally.

"I was afraid... I can't imagine my daughter on the operating table in an operation that lasts for hours." Said her mother. The medical team assured her that the campaign's doctors are highly qualified and experienced and that there was nothing to worry about.

Knowing that her daughter is in good hands, Lailat's mom agreed to the surgery. The operation was successfully done, and Lailat was recovering well.

"When my baby girl came out of the recovery room, my little girl looked at me, and I saw the most beautiful smile on her face. All I wanted was to hold my daughter to my chest... My happiness is indescribable!" Said her mother, "I'm blessed to have access to such a great medical and surgical team."

Little Lailat was discharged from the hospital a week later, and as they were leaving, her mother said:

"I feel very happy and can't wait to go back to my village to tell everyone about the success of my daughter's surgery."
