From The Field

Dr. Abdul Hay Al-Khalidi - Zaatari camp

While I was working in KSrelief’s clinics at Zaatari camp, a woman came in with her 3-month-old son who had been suffering from constant vomiting since he was two weeks old. The parents were exhausted and frustrated after seeing many doctors, all of whom were unable to diagnose the cause of their son’s illness. We found out that the child was suffering from a “hypertrophic pyloric stenosis” – a blockage of the passage out of the stomach due to thickening of the muscle at the junction between the stomach and the intestines. Corrective surgery was performed immediately. Afterwards, the parents were contacted periodically to follow up on their son’s condition, and they reported that the child was in good health and had started to gain weight.

“KSrelief’s clinics in Zaatari Camp provide comprehensive health care services to Syrian refugees. The facilities include 13 specialized clinics,  emergency room, medical laboratory, radiology and vaccination departments, and a pharmacy.”
