RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, the Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), met today with Mr. Showkutally Soodhun, President of the Ruling Party in Mauritius.

Dr. Al Rabeeah presented his guest with an overview of KSrelief’s work in crisis-affected countries, including Mauritius, and discussed a number of projects implemented in cooperation with UN and international organizations.

The two officials discussed ways to prevent and treat some diseases, such as cancer, and talked about possibility of sending a medical team to Mauritius and its neighboring countries.

Mr. Soodhun said, in a press statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), that the support being provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has helped improve the humanitarian situation in his country, and expressed his appreciation for the support being provided by the international community to build a cancer hospital to accommodate patients from Mauritius who have been receiving treatment outside the country.

On 12 May 2019, KSrelief announced the Kingdom’s donation of USD 10,000,000 to provide humanitarian assistance to Mauritius to support the government and the people due to the cyclone that recently caused extensive damage and severe loss to the country. The donation helped to alleviate the suffering of the people of Mauritius during this crisis, and funded projects in the shelter, health and food sectors that assist with rapid interventions to address the after-effects of the cyclone. Saudi Arabia is also annually providing tons of dates as a contribution during the Holy Month of Ramadan to support families in need.
