MOGADISHU, SOMALIA: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) is improving access to water for drinking, personal-use and sanitation through a USD 2M project to assist people living in some of the most drought-ravaged parts of Somalia. The project will improve access to water for some 60,000 people.

The project includes the excavation of six 250-deep water wells and extensions to existing pipelines. Six solar pumps will also be installed to help local residents suffering under extreme drought conditions.

KSrelief also provided solar pumps and maintenance for four water wells, including the following: repairing major connections, regular water quality testing at different delivery stages, and securing ten water tanks for each well (50,000-liter capacity).

The center also improved access to sanitation, hygiene and training; it provided for 600 bathrooms (300 in south-central Somalia and 300 in the Puntland region in north-east Somalia). KSrelief also distributed 4,880 personal hygiene kits, 80 hygiene kits for public bathrooms, and provided training courses for 100 trainees who can then educate the local population on improving family and community hygiene standards.
KSrelief provides extensive multisectoral support to Somalia.
