Um Hamza .. Between Passion and Making a Living

Um Hamza did not expect to bear the burden of providing a living for her three children this soon, her husband passed away. Instead of giving in to despair, she begin an arduous journey in an already exhausted country.

Two years ago, she enrolled in a sewing course in KSrelief’s “My Skills My Livelihood” project in Tarim, Hadramawt. She was given a sewing machine when she completed her course, and her passion was driving her to hone her skills and have a profession. “Entering the labor market and obtaining a source of income requires more patience and experience, but the circumstances we are going through do not allow for a longer wait. I have children who need food, clothes and drink,” she said.

Um hamza was one of the 100 or so women who participated in the sewing of 2,000 school bags. “This is an opportunity I waited a long time for”, Um Hamza says. “I got a good job, and I improved my sewing skills. I hope for more such opportunities in the future.”
